Why Clay Duck?

Welcome! You might be wondering about the name, "Clay Duck Pottery." Well, it's a story that stretches back a bit, and it all started with a clay duck dish my dad made way back in 1949. Surprisingly enough, that little duck has been a treasured family keepsake ever since!

Fast forward a few years (okay, maybe more than a few!), and I found myself drawn to the art of pottery. There's something so incredibly satisfying about taking a lump of clay and shaping it into something beautiful and functional. I quickly fell in love with the process, from the feel of the clay on my hands to the excitement of seeing the finished piece emerge from the kiln.

Funny enough, one of the first things I made was a hand-built duck, very similar to my dad's creation. When he saw my newfound passion, he jumped right in to support me. He gifted me with a pottery wheel, and as my skills grew, the idea of "Clay Duck Pottery" started to form. I thought it would be the perfect way to honor that original clay duck and the spark it had ignited, even if it was decades later! I never got the chance to try pottery as a kid, but years later I found my love for it.

My dad, the one who made that original clay duck and encouraged my love for pottery, is no longer with us. He passed away not long after giving me that pottery wheel. By naming the company after his childhood creation, it keeps his memory alive.

So, that's the story! At Clay Duck Pottery, each piece is made with that same sense of passion and joy, and with a heartfelt dedication to the memory of a loving father. I hope you'll find something here that brings a little bit of that happiness into your own home and helps you feel connected to the stories behind the craft. Thank you for visiting and taking the time to learn about our little story!
